American AVK, a leading U.S. manufacturer of gate valves, fire hydrants, and accessories for the water, wastewater, fire protection, and irrigation industries, is expanding its operations in Minden, Nevada, with two 32,000 square foot buildings slated for completion this fall, and two more buildings scheduled for construction in the spring of 2026. One building will house manufacturing for AVK’s Orbinox valve production, and the second building will be for their Elastome product production. Working in collaboration with Metcalf Builders, Inc., Fleming Steel Erectors is providing the PEMB erection and roofing for the two-story structures featuring Butler® PEMB materials, MR-24™ roofing, IMP panels from Metl Span, and two-layer insulation from Therm-All.
Because Reno is a high seismic activity area, special considerations were required for the buildings’ two-story design, with plan updates required mid-way through due to building department code changes. The changes resulted in permitting delays, which pushed the job start date two months past the original timeline estimates. Despite this delay and tariff conditions that made the steel acquisition difficult, FSE is still on schedule to complete the projects by their original deadlines.
