Fleming Steel Erectors provided structural steel erection services for the new Homefield Sports facility in Kansas City, Kansas. Working as a subcontractor for Turner Construction, one of the nation’s largest general contractors, FSE served as the steel erection partner to Bluescope Construction. The project features a Butler® pre-engineered metal building structure, TBS roof insulation assembly, MR-24™ roof system, and thermal bridge wall assembly. The work was completed on time with no injuries despite severe winter weather conditions.
The facility features a 232’ clear span, which allows for maximum flexibility in the interior space for multiple court configurations. FSE used two cranes and a mod lift assembly to safely erect the span’s heavy beams and rafters.
Financing for the project was facilitated through the STAR Bonds program, made available to municipalities by the Kansas Department of Commerce for major commercial and entertainment projects. The new facility will accommodate baseball, basketball, volleyball, and soccer, as well as a spectator mezzanine and concessions area.
